I was covering for dinner tonight with Alice. Like shopping, cooking independently has been years in skill building. Tonight her dinner was Italian sausage with broccoli and some mustard. #cooking #food #independence #disability #downSyndrome

Joel calls this artwork “People Relaxing.” He says “when I relax I like to take it easy. Because it feels good.”

Joel is very good at relaxing. We can all learn from that. 😊

I don't have trisomy, I drew this picture as an ally.
I'm a neurodivergent girl and I know that some people from our community have intellectual disabilities and they are so horribly underrepresented!
I wish I could see beautiful art showing beautiful people with ID. In the times of money and power, of solitude and dystopia, let's celebrate dignity before productivity.
Because it's deeply human.

Of when drawing a certain person ask for content if you can.

Howard G. Smith MD, AM on Instagram: "Increasing Intellects For Those With Down Syndrome Replacing the vital compound pleiotrophin, missing from the brain tissues of those with an extra 21st chromosome, shows a promise of restoring critical intellectual functionality by mending flexible synaptic connections even after neural development appears to be complete.. Neuroscientists at the University of Virginia and California’s Salk Institute made this discovery in a mouse Down Syndrome model. The researchers discovered that pleiotrophin, normally abundant during early brain development, is present at lower levels in those with Down syndrome. When they restore it in adult Down Syndrome mice using genetic engineering, critical neural function increases in the hippocampus, a key learning and memory center, and overall brain plasticity improves. Down syndrome affects about 1 in 700 American newborns condemning them to learning and memory challenges and a higher risk of other health problems throughout life. This exciting result in a pre-clinical study challenges the long-held belief that meaningful brain repair must occur before birth and opens the door to future therapies aimed at improving quality of life for those with Down Syndrome at any stage of life. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2025/12/251217082505.htm https://www.cell.com/cell-reports/fulltext/S2211-1247(25)01071-X?_returnURL=https://linkinghub.elsevier.com/retrieve/pii/S221112472501071X?showall=true #downsyndrome #pleiotrophin #genetherapy #intelligence"

A breakthrough study reveals that restoring the vital compound pleiotrophin in individuals with Down syndrome can lead to improved learning, memory, and brain function, challenging the long-held belief that brain repair must occur before birth.

This is the kind of texts I get my from my daughter Alice. Context? None. I just get a picture of the Muppets and something about a whoopee cushion. #downSyndrome #parenting #wth
#disability #parenting story time. One of the features of my daughter is that she perseverates. This is frustrating and challenging for everyone. This is made more complicated because Alice really doesn't understand time. She really has no idea of the difference between a couple days, a week, a month or several months. Both of these things are most likely due to the stroke she had rather than her #downSyndrome
