These are some of my favourite townhouses in the west end of Glasgow. Situated on Dowanside Road, they were designed by David Barclay and were built around 1900 as part of a development of similar houses in this area.

A large, and interestingly shaped, double villa in the Dowanhill area of Glasgow. The brattishing (decorative ironwork on the top of the roof) is a particularly nice feature. Built in the 1870s, its first occupant is listed as being Hugh Baird Junior of Hugh Baird and Sons, Maltsters and Hop Merchants.

A rather wonderful Corbelled Tourelle (a small circular turret with a conical roof) on the corner of an 1870s/1880s Victorian Townhouse in the West End of Glasgow.

The townhouses of Athole Gardens lit by the early morning sun. These houses were built in 1878 as homes for the city's gowing number of professionals, including stockbrokers, engineers and solicitors.

The former Notre Dame Training College Chapel, with a practising school on the ground floor, on Victoria Crescent Road in the West End of Glasgow. Designed in a Gothic style by the ecclesiastical architects Pugin and Pugin, it was built in 1898, with later additions in 1909.

Some rather beautiful red sandstone tenements on Beaumont Gate in the West End of Glasgow. Built in 1902, this block was designed by David Barclay, in collaboration with G.S. Kenneth. I don't know the exact internal layout of these tenements, but I presume the two columns of bay windows belong to different closes (the one on the right to the close shown in the photo and the one on the left to the neighbouring one).
