For my research, I am seeking to interview as many Black midwives (and other Blk birth workers, but midwifery is the central focus) as possible and get connected to birthing centers employing Black birth workers, esp. in the US South.

Question everything, mama.

If they can’t tell you the benefits, risks, AND alternatives, get a different service provider. Period.

Doctor, OB, Doula, Midwife, Nurse— they should ALL be able to tell you the benefits, risks, AND alternatives for EVERYTHING they recommend to you in order to provide 100% informed consent—

If they have not or cannot provide those 3 things for you, you have the right to deny ANY recommendation, procedure, intervention, etc.

If they go ahead and perform any procedure or intervention without your consent, they are committing obstetrical violence, coercion, and birth r*pe. Full stop. This includes cervical exams !

Know your rights and use your voice to exercise them, beautiful mama.

This is a long shot but does anyone happen to have information about the doula program at Coffee Creek? I know a bill was passed fairly recently that requires CCCF to have a doula program for pregnant and postpartum women in their custody, but I'm having trouble finding any real information about it. I managed to find the org that DOC says they are (were?) negotiating a contract with, but when I looked up their certified prison doulas none are listed in the state of Oregon.

If anyone has info related to this I'd super appreciate it!!
