> Doppio has claimed the crow's nest of Diavolo's ship as his 'territory'; this, coupled with his avian siren nature and mimicry, has the crew affectionately have him referred to as an overgrown parrot. Doppio doesn't exactly like the comparison, but he can't exactly dispute it, either.
> Whilst Diavolo hadn't even thought of having a first mate as he's managed most of the duties on his own, he eventually offered the position to Doppio, who took it more out of curiousity than obligation. (Surprisingly, he learned quickly) Doppio's position as the first mate comes with the duties expected (i.e: giving out rations, handing down orders) but he's also has more or less commanded the crow's nest as his unofficial duty; he does get headaches and seasickness from it, however.
> Doppio has eaten a raw turkey in one sitting to establish dominance before. He scared half the crew, including Diavolo. (In their defense, a siren hissing and growling with his mouth full of raw bird meat is terrifying to witness)
> Doppio and Diavolo's 'first time' had started on a 'quick' discussion on how painful the 'cat' (cat o' nine tails) is, which lead eventually to Diavolo being pressed into the bed face first while Doppio went at it. (To be fair to Diavolo, he asked for it) While they never speak of it, they do give each other rather knowing glances about it.
> Doppio can swordfight, but he'd rather use his teeth and claws if he's rather vexed.
You know what, pirate!AU lore upon ye:
> siren!Doppio's backstory is similar to Monster Forest!AU (entire flock slaughtered by hunters and home set of fire) except instead of being found right away and struggling with flock instinct, he developed a grudge against humans and began hunting them down without prejudice- even manning a abandoned ship to lure sailors thinking they were finding either a ghost ship or a stranded ship only to be divebombed and killed by a what they realize too late isn't a large parrot. (At least he's eating good this time!) Cue nearly getting tangled up in a fishing net on top of getted hit with a harpoon, breaking his wing, and nearly drowning before getting unceremoniously dumped onto Diavolo's ship.
> Diavolo, on the other hand, leaves his burning village to a bar a town away around 19 (mainly to establish an alibi because well, he literally has blood on his hands at this point) and while 'panickedly' trying to explain the distaster to 'get help', gets slipped a 'mickey finn' (okay, mickey finns actually post date the piracy era but fuck it, i'm leaving it in) and get shanghai'd onto a ship. Cue several months of being worked near to the bone, a near empty stomach, and getting struck with a cat o' nine tails enough it left scars on his back that are pretty damn painful. He eventually rallies a mutiny against the ship's captain and- after giving said captain a taste of his own sadistic medicide- throws the captain overboard and takes control of the helm. (He also tosses the captain's 'cat' overboard, mainly because he's not exactly comfortable holding the thing that scarred his back)
> Their first meeting was... not amicable; Doppio was trying to attack the crew while Diavolo wanted to let Doppio recover and fight on his own terms before leaving. The whole arrangement was very rocky at first, but after fighting for his right to leave, Doppio realized that he was happier with Diavolo and chose to stay on his own terms.
I kinda thought about my pirate/thieves of the sea au for a min and the thought of a kidnapped reader barging into the captains quarters to ask Diavolo something only to see him and siren!Doppio fucking before just closing the door and leaving in embarassment is a little funny.
(Am I distracting myself with a little AU crop rotation? Maybe.)
Reader puts a hit out on themselves to put themselves out of their misery, and somehow manages to see Diavolo's face/in person by accident. (Which, you know, is a death wish)
Except Diavolo doesn't turn reader into a donut (read: kill them via gut punch) out of paranoia immediately. He sees something in reader worth saving, and takes them in as a 'live-in assistant' (in reality, more so as a roommate/lover) and even has Doppio spend time with them. It doesn't cure them nor make the pain go away, but it hurts less to live on their end... and maybe, they realize life isn't so awful right now.
Made this for my dialogue journal earlier, couldn't post earlier because I was rushing out the door.
Also, I am debating using this as a icon.

Modern AU where Doppio keeps diaries that keep disappearing (read: Diavolo keeps destroying them bc he's paranoid that they're a security risk) up until he's writing about how he has a crush on his Boss (read: Diavolo is like 'we share the same damn body I don't think we can fuck conventionally-' but holy fuck he feels the same)
Also out of boredom Doppio adds enough stickers that there's no disernible theme. Diavolo nearly blinds himself because Doppio added a fuckton of glittery/reflective/iridescent stickers to one page.
