@scottmccloud.bsky.social extra work to process a negative. that's why THIS WAY UP ⬆️ works better than THAT WAY UP. #dontmakemethink

Don't do massive amounts of UI/UX work but heard really good things about this book so I bought it! Anyone flicked through it already? WDYT?

I just had to Google the difference between "Boost" vs "Favourite" on Mastodon - kinda speaks volumes, doesn't it...

Mastodon is actively user-hostile, exhibit #24837: even in the discussion of a bug report, no one can give a straight answer about what "privately mention" means, and whether or not it is analogous to a Direct Message on other platforms.

"Privately mention" is a confusing name without further elaboration · Issue #24837 · mastodon/mastodon

Something I would like a digital assistant to do: Answer the question, where is my package? For example, I recently ordered some coffee. I want to be able to ask, "where's my coffee?" and the assistant should know I ordered some and tell me the latest tracking update. #assistant #AI #ML #DontMakeMeThink #UX

@matthew_d_green I’d throw in the Wi-Fi vs Cellular alert in @overcastfm — it makes me think, every time.

It shouldn’t be about allowing cellular, that’s not the desired outcome. In this situation, the user either wants to download immediately or later when on Wi-Fi.

A better alert would be:

Title:
Download “[EpisodeTitle]” Using Cellular Data?

Infotext:
The download size is [EpisodeSize] MB. Using data over a cellular network may incur additional fees.

Buttons:
Later on Wi-Fi (secondary)
Download (primary)

The text replacement form on iOS always gets me. It feels natural to enter the shortcut first, followed by the outcome. Why? Because it matches their order in actual use. Apple describes the functionality in the same order, too.

I saved a new one today and wanted to give it a try. I wrote ‘masto’ but nothing happened. I thought the replacement failed so I wrote ‘Mastodon’ out. It got replaced by ‘masto’ and I immediately realised I had entered them in the wrong order again. #dontmakemethink
