Shirley Horn with Horns is a 1963 studio album by Shirley Horn, featuring arrangements by Quincy Jones, Billy Byers, Thad Jones and Don Sebesky.

The Allmusic review by Scott Yanow awarded the album three stars and said that "...Horn does not play piano at all, sticking exclusively to vocals, and she had less control over the interpretations (being persuaded to sing some songs at faster-than-usual tempos) than she would later on...although the overall music is enjoyable, Horn would have much preferred to be the pianist behind her own vocals". - Wikipedia

Don Sebesky & The Jazz Rock Syndrome 1968

Frugtastic grooves!

"An excellent little album -- with a very funky sound! Don't be put off by the "jazz rock" in the title -- because there's very little rock in here -- just some hard funky drums and fuzzy use of guitar -- served up by Don Sebesky in his approximation of the sound of the younger generation! ... very much in the best groovy, groove-heavy Verve instrumental mode of the 60s -- a soaring, swinging style that did plenty back in the day to bridge the generation gap. Guitar solos are by Joe Beck and Larry Coryell -- and other players include Hubert Laws on flute, Richard Spencer on alto, and Don Sebesky on organ, clavinet, and electric harpsichord! Titles include "Shake A Lady", "Banana Flower", "The Word", "Big Mama Cass", "Somebody Groovy", "I Dig Rock & Roll Music", "You've Got Your Troubles", and "Meet A Cheeta"." Dusty Groove

@HTB1943 @allenmichie In fact Creed gave Chet his comeback chance in 1974 after he'd cleaned up (sadly temporarily) and got his teeth fixed. "She Was Too Good To Me" is I think such a beautiful album. It's #DonSebesky arranged and conducted, but is pretty minimal by his big band standards.

Creed also reunited Chet and Gerry Mulligan in 1975 for a #CarnegieHall concert, that had it's "issues". I'm planning to talk to the recording engineer Dave Hewitt some time soon.

It's been a fun few times talking to and poking about in the photographic, video and painting archive of Alan Kaplan. His picture from his social commentary "Study in Gray" - The Dull Life of Women in 1969 was used without permission or payment it seems on the cover of #DonSebesky album "Rape Of El Morro". In that context it's dark and brooding, seen in it's original context it takes on a whole different perspective. #CTIrecords #CreedTaylor
