Visitors to my home city, Dublin, often just talk about Temple Bar, the Book of Kells or the many other attractions the city has to offer. But nobody seems to mention that we also have a beach, which is where we were early this morning with our dog Boole. I guess it's because we don't get sun that often. Lovely place, well tended, almost empty and even has an on-beach drinking water tap. Dogs can run free there until 11am.

There was a festive atmosphere around Dollymount as queues of people in Santa hats and reindeer ears waited their turn to take to the water.It was an unseasonably mild day for festive swimmers, with temperatures around 11C when they jumped into the water from 10.30am on Christmas morning.
