I bought a new larger bed so the dogs can share it (wishful thinking), but Meili has completely adopted it.

It must be like going from a double to a king-sized bed!

Ok.

I read all of the responses that were given, and I am going to modify my ask. Thanks for all the recommendations (none of which was really new), because they helped me hone in on what I really want, and why all of these suggestions have been tried and yet for me something is lacking.

I’d love to hang out with some of the #dogsoastodon, and although I’ve been given several ways to hit on strangers in public to beg for access to their dogs, that doesn’t feel comfy to me because it’s sometimes awkward for the owners. That, and I want to do more than have a fleeting moment with a dog where I pat it on the head.

Dog sitting also doesn’t work, because that’s a multi hour (usually overnight) commitment, and if I could do that on any regular basis I might be able to own a dog.

Around here, volunteers at the shelter have to also make a large time commitment so one can clean up their cages; it’s not really quality one-on-one time.

I think maybe setting up a dog walking practice might be something I do, but that too requires a schedule of availability. I have it when I have it, until I have to stay late at work and then I anger the clients because I don’t show up.

What I guess I’m really looking for is a chance to befriend dog owners and their dogs, so I can meet the cool people that own dogs, and spend time with their dogs when schedules align, without anyone being weirded out with the process.

If someone near the DMV (think Pentagon) wants to meet a cool guy (that’d be me) who will be a friend, love their dog(s), and just has an inconsistent schedule, let me know. My interests vary, but I’m generally fun to hang out with.
