Grey the earthlingSo the thing with Ncuti Gatwa's performance as the Doctor isn't that he cries too much. That's good and fine; they're affected by tragedy. It's what happens after.
What's missing from his performance (and Jodie Whittaker's, come to think of it) is moments where all of that patience and resilience turns on a sixpence into righteous anger spat directly at the face of injustice.
Moments like when Captain Sisko found out that [spoiler] was a Maquis traitor (though of course the situation was much more nuanced in Deep Space Nine… it's always more nuanced in Deep Space Nine). And see? Peter Capaldi was considered for the role of Benjamin Sisko.
But then I suppose that's not really the actors' performances at fault, but the writing.
