I can watch the rain clouds approach the city on my radio-connected pocket computer and time my bicycle ride to get me back through my front door twenty minutes before the deluge. Just in time to put the kettle on and have a cup of tea ready to enjoy with the sound of rain through the open windows.

Not everything about the present day is ideal but some parts of it are still pretty magical.

10/10 spring day out there, Toronto. Roost up at a patio and soak up the sun. #dlws
Left work. Started walking home. Rain out of sunny sky. Get home. Oh, the rain stopped. Still sunny, for #dlws values of sun.
Some horrible form of water is falling from the sky in Toronto. #dlws #Spring

We've had such a rough winter that we still have ludicrous potholes on Toronto roads

Aware of this I kept my old winter tires on a little longer than I typically would.

This plan reached its logical conclusion today when I merged from one highway onto a local expressway and to my dismay found myself heading right into an incredibly nasty gap in the road's surface.

I managed to swerve enough to avoid hitting it with my rear tire but the front wheel took one for the team

Fortunately there was a local street exit a few hundred metres away and I managed to limp off the high speed road to replace the tire in safety, instead of becoming another road hazard myself.
