Il Tempo: La Corte d'appello ribalta il caos sulla sala da ballo alla Casa Bianca a favore di Trump

Una Corte d'appello federale ha autorizzato il presidente Usa Donald Trump a proseguire la costruzione di una sala da ballo da 400 milioni di dollari alla Casa Bianca, pronunciandosi un giorno dopo che un giudice di grado inferiore aveva continuato a bloccare i lavori in superficie sul sito dell'ex ala Est. Un collegio di tre giudici della Corte d'appello degli Stati Uniti per il Distretto di Columbia ha sospeso temporaneamente l'ordinanza del giudice distrettuale, Richard Leon, che bloccava parte del progetto. Il collegio ha fissato un'udienza per il 5 giugno per esaminare il caso.

Nella sua sentenza di giovedì scorso, Leon aveva continuato a bloccare i lavori di ampliamento della sala da ballo di 8.400 metri quadrati, consentendo solo la prosecuzione di quelli sotterranei per un bunker e altre "strutture per la sicurezza nazionale" presenti sul posto. Lo scorso autunno Trump ha demolito l'ala Est della Casa Bianca per costruire al suo posto un'enorme sala da ballo. Il National Trust for Historic Preservation ha poi intentato causa per bloccare i lavori, sostenendo che il tycoon avesse oltrepassato i propri poteri procedendo con il progetto senza prima ottenere l'approvazione delle principali agenzie federali e del Congresso.

A federal appeals court authorized U.S. President Donald Trump to continue construction of a $400 million ballroom at the White House, a day after a lower-court judge continued to block work on the surface of the former East Wing site. A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia temporarily suspended the injunction issued by District Judge Richard Leon, which had blocked part of the project. The panel set a hearing for June 5 to examine the case.

In his ruling last Thursday, Leon had continued to block the expansion of the 8,400-square-foot ballroom, allowing only the continuation of work underground for a bunker and other "national security structures" on the site. Last fall, Trump demolished the East Wing of the White House to build a massive ballroom in its place. The National Trust for Historic Preservation then sued to halt the work, arguing that the tycoon had overstepped his authority by proceeding with the project without first obtaining approval from the main federal agencies and Congress.
