Here's a summary of my recent work together with the end user: a keyboard adaptation for the user with cerebral palsy. This time, we used a software instead of custom hardware.

I just discovered (and tried) this wonderful piece of software
https://github.com/houmain/keymapper
It allows remapping your keyboard in many ways, and it's controlled from a simple configuration file (so, you can prepare one for your disabled friend).
You can, for example, remap the keyboard to only use its right half, if the left hand is dysfunctional (similar to the mirrored keyboard I made, https://github.com/clackups/qmk_firmware/blob/onehanded_nuphy_air60_v2/keyboards/nuphy/air60_v2/ansi/keymaps/clackups_mirrored/README.md ).
Also, it should be useful for #disabledgamers , to map, for example, AWSD to different keys.

Got this joystick from AliExpress:
https://a.aliexpress.com/_EIO74Ie
A good quality analog joystick, a solid 3d printed body (need to add rubber feet though), and a lazy man's microchip solution: they took a CH573F PCB that's used in many cheap Chinese keypads and translated the analog signals into keyboard arrow keys. There's so much more one could achieve, had they used an rp2040 and open source firmware.
So, if someone has difficulties pressing the arrow keys, this might be a solution for #disabledgamers
Someone had a brilliant idea to adapt a stretching gamepad for bed-bound users.
https://www.reddit.com/r/disabledgamers/s/Xsr7NFxSZg
I bought a copy to check what's inside. A solid make, but a completely unknown MCU, so no chance to modify the firmware.
I just learned about this software from comments on Reddit.
Excellent idea and a great help for the #disabledgamers

Someone did an awesome thing: they took apart a Chinese game controller and inserted a long cable, so that you can play games in bed with both hands.
