This chart shows how personal experience varies despite official scorecards .
Our experience with East Midlands Railway disabled assistance has always been excellent, with staff often going above and beyond.
But here they are languishing just below halfway in the scoring.
It's all a bit odd.

Even worse if you need step free access and assistance. I have to check if the stations I'm using are accessible then negotiate the scooter policy for each train company (I currently have 7 different scooter permits), then book the ticket without knowing if there is a wheelchair space available.
I could avoid the last bit and book the ticket via the passenger access but I have to tell them which stations and train times and talk them through prices.

First time traveling with mobility aid (rollator, flying). That sucked monkey butt. I think it’ll be better in the future now that I understand the process. But damn. I can also see how exponentially worse it would be if I were wheelchair bound or more dependent on my rollator. (I have POTS so it’s not for as much constant structural support as many people need.) #disabledTravel #spoonieTravel #noSpoonsLeft

Fantastic new AccessoLoo facilities at City of Derry Airport.

Deaf and disabled people, travelling to and from the airport, can be assured that they can use the toilet in confidence and safety.

Thank you to The Consumer Council Northern Ireland and Christine McClements for supporting in this and City of Derry Airport for their willingness and eagerness to be an inclusive airport.

Facebook reminded me that we were in Venice 3 years ago. Here’s one picture I took then, on the vaporetto water bus on the Grand Canal. I also blogged some days later about our visit, reflecting on acqua alta (Venice had very recently had some of its worst ever flooding), sightseeing (including as a disabled visitor), and long term prospects for the city. https://vivsacademicblog.wordpress.com/2019/11/24/thoughts-on-a-recent-visit-to-venice-acqua-alta-sightseeing-and-long-term-prospects-for-the-city/
