It is important to note that the context of the quotation shows that Dirac was arguing that mathematical beauty was a reason to have faith that a theory would in the end turn out to be correct — despite present contrary experimental evidence — when further insights or experiments brought theory and evidence back into alignment.

Dirac was drawing a moral from a time when Schrödinger had been discouraged from publishing the relativistic version of his wave equation because of a disagreement with evidence, which was later resolved.
