Alafowlia comes from “ale fowlio”, a Welsh translation of “bowling alley”.

We’ve several medieval walled-towns in the north of Wales, some, like Conwy, better known than others. Here’s another. As I arrived yesterday for an x-ray at the hospital, this view in the sunshine of castle hill caught my eye. The hill, walls & what’s left of the castle are now largely obscured by trees, but I could just about make out the remains.
