Now that the enshittification of Discord progresses, it's time to consider alternatives. Techcrunch has made a list.

Nice to see Mumble on it, that's the server I ran for my circle when we started gaming together and needed chat. Fine service, I can recommend it.

Teamspeak was the next server I fired up when that same circle decided we needed that, because "everybody else uses it" 🙄. Self-hosted but not Open Source, so I was less enthusiastic about that.

After Teamspeak they moved to Discord, which is neither self-hosted nor Open Source, so that was a hard pass for me.

Let's see if I can get them to use their accounts on my Matrix server now that some of them will realize it's time to move again 😎

Besser spät als nie. Europa muss bei kritischer Infrastruktur unabhängig werden. Zu lange haben wir es versäumt und uns dadurch erpressbar gemacht. Es ist noch nicht zu spät und es ist schön zu sehen, dass gehandelt wird. #digitalsouvereignty #MadeInEurope #MadeInEU

What we can personally do is spread information regarding #digitalsouvereignty and give a spotlight to collective actions like #DID - especially within our own family and friend circles with people who are not already engaged with the topic.

The door is open a crack, not just politically, but also among many people who have previously turned a blind eye. These thoughts need to become mainstream, and then politics will respond.

I was writing Christmas cards realising
that this would be something I could never do with an “AI“.
I want to write something meaningful, and even if “AI“ could “understand“ the connections I have with my loved ones, it would still not bear the same meaning.
The process, the understanding, the thinking done during writing is something we cannot outsource.
