3. Words like #DigitalAutonomy usually RELY ON OTHERS to do it *for themselves* and aside from a few changes I don't know you can help others to manage their own #life or #undo #addictions or do the #betterpractices stuff other than give them time to catch on to it and a few #tips or #handholding posts / principles etc.
How could you speed up just general tips or convert them on to somethign else?
@collective_truth Yeah, I deleted everything. I only backed up the posts from my 21 year old blog (While I look for a new home for it within the EU) & my Flickr pictures. A clean start. A hard reset, while I try to figure out where to next ...

@collective_truth Individually, at this point in time, I don't. I deleted all of my online life in December last year. I'm starting from scratch now, trying to apply what I've learned in the past 30 years to do better. All in all, as an effort to not repeat the same mistakes that brought me to late 2025 to delete everything and start again.
As a group, I'm part of a collective working on exactly this topic of #DigitalAutonomy & #SovereignByDesign right as we speak.
Finally, great to hear. In general it seems hard to have people understand the difference between convienient locked-in platforms where you pay with your autonomy and privacy, compared to the open protocols the internet is build upon. We nevertheless do our best supporting the latter.
For example with explanations like this to our Dutch organizations, encouraging them to embrace the 'good' protocols as well: https://nietzonder.nl
In my lab, we have been using NextCloud for more than a decade. It stores manuscripts, Omics datasets, and theses of more than 50 students and researchers. You can self-host #NextCloud on your server or any provider. Thank you, @nextcloud

To stay connected and be visible in #student life we are (still) on #instagram.
But the longer we stay, the harder it becomes to defend that choice.
It clashes with what we stand for as a #library: trustworthy information, #OpenScience, #DigitalAutonomy & student wellbeing.
We want to explore alternatives and open up the conversation about what responsible (online) #communication with students could and should look like.

This is a great collection of position papers, interviews and articles on how #Dutch #HigherEducation organisations are preparing and taking steps towards more #DigitalAutonomy.
