"EU ready to cave to Trump on tech" https://pluralistic.net/2026/04/04/digital-subjugation/#greenlands-next (@pluralistic)

I can't say this often enough these days: Our dependence on US-controlled tech (AWS, Microsoft, Google, Apple, Meta), at all levels of society, is a massive security risk and a tool of coercion that must be addressed urgently. #Privacy #Security #DigitalFreedom #ThinkOpen

What an honor that @BrodieOnLinux had me over for tea, to talk about #digitalfreedom and #sfd2026

Apple moves on. Linux gives older hardware a second life.

This video shows a 2019 MacBook Pro being revived with Linux Mint via the T2 Linux project. Even on hardware that Apple makes awkward to escape from, most laptops became usable again. Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, webcam, mic and even the Touch Bar worked. Touch ID did not, but the bigger story is simple: plenty of "old" devices are still useful if you are allowed to run software that respects your control.

Support ending should not automatically mean landfill.

How much tech becomes e-waste because companies stop making it convenient to keep using what you already own?

Apple Doesn't Want You to Know About this

The open web isn't dying. We're killing it

The open web is under pressure from AI companies and large platforms, but its troubles did not start with AI. We also chose convenience over control, and we will have to change that if we want a better web.

#LinkedIn Is Illegally Searching Your Computer - Microsoft is running one of the largest corporate espionage operations in modern history.
Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm.
After years on the platform with not a single positive, not a single real job-related inquiry. I deleted my Linkedin profile last year. There have been no negatives to that decision, just a lot less BS. #DataPrivacy #tracking #surveillance #DigitalFreedom

LinkedIn Is Illegally Searching Your Computer

Microsoft is running one of the largest corporate espionage operations in modern history. Every time any of LinkedIn’s one billion users visits linkedin.com, hidden code searches their computer for installed software, collects the results, and transmits them to LinkedIn’s servers and to third-party companies including an American-Israeli cybersecurity firm. The user is never asked. Never told. LinkedIn’s privacy policy does not mention it. Because LinkedIn knows each user’s real name, employer, and job title, it is not searching anonymous visitors. It is searching identified people at identified companies. Millions of companies. Every day. All over the world.

If you have missed it, Google is closing down the Android ecosystem Apple style by requiring every app be signed by them. How do you get your app signed then? By accepting their ToS and paying them a fee. Which is of course in stark violation of EU DMA. But this will affect the entire world, and kill indie/open source apps as we know it.

See https://keepandroidopen.org for more info and tips to resist.

Keep Android Open

Advocating for Android as a free, open platform for everyone to build apps on.

I have just deleted a workspace with 237 git repositories from bitbucket.org. These have all been migrated to personal hosting. What a thrill! Quite some emotions!

Google is coming for sideloading, and it’s a red flag for all of us. 🚩

Android’s "open" reputation is being traded for a walled garden. Google’s plans to restrict sideloading aren't just about "security"—they’re about control. By making it harder to install apps outside the Play Store, they’re stifling #FOSS and forcing everyone into their data-hungry ecosystem.
