I've been messing around with how target numbers work, and because my attribute system is resource based and it's possible to run out of attribute dice, it may be possible to have set dc's for many combat actions, and to not have to give any muscle/agility/scout/study/charm attributes to monsters.

This makes making monsters far easier.

The caster can use part of their action to unleash the paradox dice and roll them for a Paradox Effect.

Why use action? Because it means the player must choose between accumulating more paradox or be less effective in the round to suffer a lesser effect.

I kinda like this system because it means a game could see some extended spell slinging action 😁👍🧙‍♀️

(Will work on it some more though)

As much as I'd like the Nox Engine to include a modular magic system, I just don't think I can manage it without making it too complicated, so I think I'll have to scrap and start over

Or specifically, set the previous aside in case I want to use it later 😅

Anyway, I think I will base the new magic system on Control and give it a sort of health-like system

I think I've taken the #NoxEngine way further into the realm of complicated than I was planning 😬

Crunch can be great fun at times though, but I think the mechanics need a little trimming

...just a little

Hey #designttrpg #ttrpg folks; The latest episode of the RPG Design Panelcast is now out! This episode, recorded at Metatopia Online 2021, is titled "Details for the Devil", presented by Richard Ruane, @thedovetailor, @goatmansgoblet and @Zedeksiew ! It's an excellent episode with a lot of talk about deeper issues of colonialism and cultural contexts for micro-settings. Dig in!

Episode 342: Details for the Devil | RPG Design Panelcast

Recorded at Metatopia Online 2021 Presented by Richard Ruane, Pam Punzalan, Brian Yaksha, Zedeck Siew.   In METATOPIA 2020's "Devil in the Details" panel, we explored microsettings; settings that focus closely on a specific area, region, or location. This year, we'll discuss how microsettings challenge traditional assumptions about game mechanics, focusing on character creation, magic, technology, and GM procedures. How can the concrete specificity of microsettings open up other design opportunities beyond just the setting details?

Looked through one of the games I never published to see if it's something I can work with, maybe complete, and then perhaps release into the wild world of #TTRPG

I think I had something there. The mechanics are pretty functional and complete, at least pre-playtest complete, but the setting is severely lacking

Some of the text needs to be rephrased, but I could alter this to function as a decent game, I think
