This Hartmut Esslinger flip phone concept piece done for Apple in 1983/1984 is making the rounds on social media.

Many are showing a certain sense of naïveté, claiming it's fake, or AI generated, or impossible because of cell phone tech of the era, or Apple was way ahead of their time. Some even wonder where the screen is.

Folks. People. This is a prototype of a CORDLESS HOME PHONE, not a cell phone or a smartphone.

Just a few years later, Panasonic brought the concept to life and actually sold a tiny, pocketable CORDLESS flip phone. My dad owned one of them in 1988. So Esslinger's concept was definitely do-able.
