Film #13 of Queer As Fuck: My Pride Month Movie Challenge What a gorgeous, stunningly acted film. Desert Hearts covers well-trod ground, but the way it goes around it and the year it was released makes it groundbreaking. Natalie Cooper’s screenplay of two women in 1959 Las Vegas falling in love with each other grounds the film in the real without overdramatizing things or making it lurid; even today, it can be hard to find such approaches and it’s an absolute breath of fresh air.
