This is completely & absolutely unacceptable, but par-for-the-course in the #UK now, as our supine #courts & our equally supine #Labour #Government do the bidding of #Israel, & never mind its #genocide in #Gaza & wholesale #slaughter of the #Palestinians, or in #Lebanon & #Iran. These #prison #sentences, at a time of absurd prison #overcrowding, are all wholly disproportionate, & should NOT have been linked to #terrorism. These #defendants are NOT #terrorists.
Pro-Palestine activists sentenced as terrorists over damage at Israeli arms factory in UK

Four found guilty get tougher conditions as judge says actions were ‘designed to intimidate the UK government and a section of the public’

How can the #criminaldamage convictions of these #defendants be ruled "terrorism related" if #PalestineAction has been ruled as NOT being a #terrorist organisation by the #HighCourt? And how can a biased #judge, who refused to recuse himself from this case, be deciding this issue?
Sentencing Palestine Action protesters as terrorists would be ‘constitutional threat’, says lawyer

Judge will decide whether four’s acts had link to terrorism, despite jury not convicting them of terrorism offence

One thing I don't understand about Government's paranoia about #jury trials and nullification, is that they aren't and never were instant "get out of jail" card for #defendants (even if some jurors may be sympathetic).

For instance out of those liberating #beagles from an #animaltesting lab, many suspects were sent before #CrownCourt - some got acquitted but others found guilty, and it seemed to be a complete lottery as to what happened.

I was on jury service myself in 2023, and I admit the amount of disruption it caused to my life made it harder for me not to look for reasons for finding defendants guilty (unless it was something like eco/left political protests/animal rights)

(In the end I was discharged without being put on a jury as the Court couldn't find any shorter cases)
