Love this cast iron ornamental lamp bracket on the bridge between Holmlea and Cathcart in Glasgow, especially the paintwork. Dating from 1901 (when the bridge was built), it was made by W. MacFarlane and Co's Saracen Foundry in the north of the city. There's a pair of them on the bridge, one on each side of the road, and just think how impressive they'd look if they were tastefully restored.

However, similar unattributed drinking fountains can be found outside Alexandra Park in Dennistoun (thought to have been made, at least in part, by the Sun Foundry) and Cowan Park in Barrhead.

The John Aitken Memorial Fountain at Govan Cross in Glasgow. Erected in 1884 as a memorial to Govan's first medical officer, serving between 1864 and his death aged just 41 in 1880, it is one of the few surviving examples of a decorative water fountain known to have been made by the Cruikshanks and Company foundry in Denny.

Love this recently refurbished decorative ironwork on one of the mausoleums in the Necropolis, Glasgow's first major Victorian cemetery. There seems to be a definite influence of Islamic art to its design, especially in the latticework of the central arched panel.

A rather lovely bit of decorative and monogrammed ironwork at the entrance to the former Buchanan Instititue for Destitute Children on Greenhead Street in the East End of Glasgow.

Decorative wrought iron grille over the fanlight of 77 St Vincent Street in Glasgow. The building was designed by J. J.Stevenson, and was constructed in the 1870s. The words at the bottom of the grille are Respice Finem, a Latin phrase which means Consider the End. This can be thought of as a memento mori, and a reminder to consider the consequences on your actions, rather than acting rashly in the moment.
