Something we dont like about the talk is the neutral way in which it talks about the historical roles that plural beings and trans beings (especially transfem beings) filled in societies and cultures, roles which were largely of a spiritual nature.
As Talia Bhatt makes clear in her phenomenal text "The Third Sex", this role was often violently forced upon and the whitewashing of this vioelnce, that is being done today, often by cis academics who instead of a free world imagine a multipolar hierarchical world in which peripheries get codeified into their own violent states, with their own norms and standards of hierarchy born out of distinct cultural practices, is a danger we all need to be aware of.
Decolonialism cannot mean a building or rebuilding of other kind of hierarchies, if it is to be effective in the actual liberation of people. Decolonialism has to mean full autonomy for all colonized beings.
This isnt supposed to say that spirituality is inherently bad, there are so many liberatory ways of interacting with it, what is bad is forced gender roles.
