Pre-dawn at #deceptionpass, looking west towards Victoria, BC. Deception Pass has some of the strongest tidal currents in the continental US, peaking around 9 MPH. The tide wasn't *that* strong when I shot this, but the water leaving the narrow pass still leaves a visible vortex hundreds of feet wide in the middle of the bay. Also, notice that the little peninsula on the left has a visible wake.
This was a 24s exposure at the equivalent of around 28mm; you can see star trails in the sky if you look closely.
The small island in the mid distance is Deception Island; the larger land mass on its right is probably the south end of Lopez Island, and the lights of Victoria are visible to the left.
