THE CHOICE THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING: A Message From the Heart of My New Book ( BURIED THINGS CAN STILL BLOOM- The Awakening of KAEL)

In this heartfelt letter to readers, Isabella Joshua opens up about the most difficult scene she ever wrote: the moment her lead character, Kael Morrison, a man hollowed by grief, addiction, and betrayal chooses forgiveness over revenge. Part personal confession, part invitation, this post asks the question at the heart of her debut novel: what does unforgiveness truly cost us, and what becomes possible when we finally let it go? Available April 6, 2026.

‘Lies Out’ by L.T. Linden: A Cute Debut Novel

Lies Out by L.T. Linden Lies Out follows Connor and Celina. Celina is best friends with Connor's sister, Gigi, and Connor hates her; he is polite but indifferent towards her for Gigi's sake. Celina doesn't know what she has done to make Connor hate her, but she is polite again for Gigi's sake. Connor ends up in an accident, and Gigi is unable to be there for her brother, so Celina rushes to the hospital for her. Connor then needs physical therapy and someone to check in on him and report back to Gigi. Obviously, she asks Celina, which leads Connor and Celina to spend more time together, and eventually, they cannot ignore the pull. Can Connor get his head out of his arse long enough to not mess this up? Would I humiliate myself again by kissing her? Maybe I should care about humiliating myself again. Maybe I should think of Gigi and the complication. All the reasons this is a bad idea. But my hand is already at the nape of her neck, tilting her face up. Her lips part on a sharp exhale. And I stop caring about anything else. […]

“Wonderment Within Weirdness”: Why My Debut Novel is Grand and Ambitious

When people think of debut novels, they often imagine modest, concise works—stories that are careful, restrained, and manageable for a first-time author. In contrast, my debut novel, Wonderment Within Weirdness, is over 600 pages. For many readers and writers, that alone might seem unusual for a first book. Debut novels typically aim to prove a writer’s skill without overwhelming themselves or the audience. But from the very beginning, I wanted my novel to be grand in scope. I wanted it […]

Wonderment Within Weirdness: A Story That Contains Everything

When people talk about novels, especially debut novels, there is often an assumption that they will focus on one or two central themes. A book might be primarily about adventure, or love, or war, or philosophy. Some stories lean heavily into action, others into introspection. Many books are structured around a specific narrative focus, and that focus shapes how readers understand the story. But when I look at my debut novel, Wonderment Within Weirdness, something stands out to me in a very […]

How an N.L. author and scientist used 'two-eyed seeing' to craft her debut novel
Novelist Deidre Halbot says she views her writing practice and her day job as an environmental scientist as “polar opposites.”
Yet, despite the distinction she draws between her work in the factual world of science and the fictional world of her writing, her intim...

Wonderment Within Weirdness Is Weirdly an Anti-War Novel

Sometimes you write a book and only later realize what it was actually about. That might sound strange, but it happens more often than people think. Stories have a way of revealing their deeper meanings after the fact, sometimes months or even years after they are written. When I first wrote my debut novel, Wonderment Within Weirdness, I was not sitting there thinking, “I am going to write an anti-war novel.” That was not the plan. The goal was much simpler and honestly much more chaotic. […]

Four Years Later: Connor, Silence, and the Things Addiction Leaves Behind

Before You Read: A Necessary Disclaimer I need to say something before you continue. What you’re about to read is the heaviest thing I have ever shared publicly. Not just on this blog. On any blog. On any platform. This is not a dramatic exaggeration. It is a sincere warning. I have written about difficult topics before. I have written about personal growth, loneliness, identity, frustration, politics, science, and the complexity of being human. But this piece is different. This one […]
