Old KDE / Qt apps like kaffeine, DVBcut or avidemux behaving badly under #Wayland? Just ask for #X11 compatibility! 🥳
Instead of
'Exec=some_app'
change it to
'Exec=env QT_QPA_PLATFORM=xcb some_app'
in the corresponding '*.desktop' file under '/usr/share/applications/'.
Too hot? Not keen on messing with system files? No problem either! Just copy the relevant files over to '~/.local/share/applications/' first and edit 'em there. Might be the cleaner approach anyway, as these will be entirely yours to keep and are supposed to overrule whatever the system files say... 😇
Changes not showing? App vanished from the App menu? Don't despair! Just switch the Gnome App menu extension off and back on again for your changes to take effect. 👍
(Only where X11 compatibility mode is needed, of course. No point changing it if the App already runs flawlessly under Wayland 'as is', but many old Apps simply don't and some likely never will - some due to utter lack of maintenance upstream.)
Decided to try to find if someone else was having the same issues I was having in Debian Testing for the past couple weeks and like 2 hours after replying to them saying that I was having the same issues as them updates came in that fixed it and some of the other graphical issues I was having lol.
The issue I was having was that apps using Xwayland were using the default X11 cursor and so it looked off when hovering over them, I think the update to gnome-core that was migrated to testing was what fixed it?
#Linux #DebianTesting
(I do know how to fix it if it did go wrong tho)Jaja!
1x "dconf reset -f /"
Schon spurt Gnome und Wayland startet auch wieder artig.
