In Israël gaat een zeer omstreden wetsvoorstel om de doodstraf in te voeren na het weekend de beslissende stemronde in. Volgens de wet wordt de doodstraf mogelijk voor mensen die zijn veroordeeld voor moord met een terroristisch motief. In de praktijk zal de wet alleen gelden voor Palestijnen, vrezen critici.

Terdoodveroordeelden zouden volgens de nieuwe wet opgehangen moeten worden. Naar verwachting is de stemming maandag, vlak voor de politiek met reces gaat voor Pesach. Bij twee eerdere stemrondes was er een meerderheid voor en de kans is groot dat ook bij de laatste en beslissende ronde een meerderheid voor zal stemmen.
