Since this was written 1.5 years ago, the situation has only become worse. I'm far from "giving up", but averting disaster before the end of this century seems implausible at this point. What people once predicted for the turn of the century will likely befall us decades before that. More and more, my mindset is evolving from simply working on how to reduce my impact on the climate to also looking at how to prepare for this bleak future. (Not that I've really made any tangible progress on the latter yet.)
