Listening tips: Twin Peaks
As a huge fan of Twin Peaks, I love re-watching the old episodes of this remarkable and memorable TV series. No matter how many times Iāve seen them, there are always some new details and insights that keep things fresh.
As of lately Iām also digging deeper into the strange and bizarre world of David Lynchās creation by listening to a number of Twin Peaks-related podcasts. And so in this instalment of my monthly listening tips, Iām going to share some of the audio resources that Iāve found useful and enjoyable.
Damn Fine Podcast
Originally running between November 2016 and November 2017, this podcast series is an episode-by-episode discussion of Twin Peaks hosted by Ron Richards and Tom Merritt. While I donāt always agree with their opinions and conclusions, each episode is very informative and entertaining. You can access all episodes via their official website, or by searching for Damn Fine Podcast in your podcast app.
Twin Peaks Unwrapped
Unlike the Damn Fine Podcast, which ended in 2017, Twin Peaks Unwrapped is still in production and currently has a total of 275 episodes! Rather than a guide through each of the episodes, this podcast series has a much wider focus, which includes TV shows, books, and events that relate to the wider Twin Peaks community. There are discussions, talks, and interviews with Twin Peaks heavyweights, and thereās even a book based on this podcast. Itās a fantastic resource for all fans!
Twin Peaks Rewatch
Twin Peaks Rewatch is part of the Idle Thumbs network of podcasts focusing on entertainment and popular culture. I believe it launched at the time when the Season 3 of Twin Peaks first came out, but the podcast itself follows each of the episodes, starting with Season 1. There is also a discussion forum, but it seems to have gone completely silent back in 2018. Still, itās interesting to explore if youāre new to Twin Peaks.
Creamed Corn and the Universe
The concept of this podcast is rather interesting, as it doesnāt analyse individual episodes, but delves into the characters of Twin Peaks ā one character per episode. First launched in May of 2022 and still ongoing ā with a total of 57 episodes at the time of writing, you can access Creamed Corn and the Universe by clicking here.
Blue Rose Task Force: A Twin Peaks Obsessive Podcast
Described as āa spoiler laced, coffee-fueled, Twin Peaks podcast that dives deep into history and theoryā, Blue Rose Task Force is very au courant, with new episodes coming out as we speak. Hosted by John Bernardy and Elle Holgate, this podcast series has a wide focus that will whet your appetite for all things Twin Peaks.
The following are not podcast series, but a small selection of individual radio programmes on the subject of Twin Peaks (and Iāll be adding more):
Twin Peaksā Revival Promises Weirdness And Mystery ā But Is That Enough? [NPR]
Twin Peaks ā includes extra resources [BBC Radio 4]
Twin Peaks co-creator Mark Frost reveals the secret history of an epically weird show [CBC Radio]
