Drowning in data sets? Here’s how to cut them down to size

Indefinite data retention is neither financially nor practically possible, but there are ways to give your data maximal long-term value.

Still annoyed at my cleaning company. Yesterday they told me that they had to take before/after pictures of the house.
My immediate reaction? No way in hell!
First off; I pay for 3 hrs of cleaning not picture taking.
Second; who’s holding my data and how will it be maintained?
I’m so sick of companies not thinking through privacy issues.

5NF and Database Design

Author: Alexey Makhotkin [email protected], (~3900 words) One of the goals of this publication is to deconstruct the traditional ways of teaching basic topics in relational databases. Previously we discussed the fourth normal form (4NF): “Historically, 4NF explanations are needlessly confusing”. Let’s discuss the ultimate beast: fifth normal form (5NF). Often it’s presented even more confusingly than 4NF is, and we can show that this presentation is unnecessary, and the confusion is completely artificial.

What Game Engines Know About Data That Databases Forgot

Game engines and databases solved the same problem independently. Typhon draws from both traditions to build a database engine purpose-built for game servers.
