Why Europe needs a sovereign open #CEI stack? On 23rd of April, in Brussels, O-CEI Horizon will be an active partner in the workshop “Open-Source Strategies for Europe’s Sovereign Digital Infrastructure”, organized within the Eclipse Foundation's Open Community Experience 2026. At a time when the European Commission is preparing the European Open Digital Ecosystem Strategy (expected Q1 2026), this discussion becomes essential: Europe needs viable, interoperable alternatives to dominant global platforms as industry transitions toward software-defined and AI-driven systems. The session will bring together policy and research perspectives, including Rolf Riemenschneider (European Commission, Project Officer for O-CEI Horizon and COP-PILOT Horizon), to discuss how collaborative open-source development can evolve into a coordinated European digital infrastructure supporting technological autonomy, trusted data exchange, and scalable innovation. Ignacio Lacalle Úbeda, from Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV), O-CEI's coordinating team, will present how Cloud-Edge-IoT continuum technologies enable interoperable industrial platforms and trustworthy data infrastructures across sectors, from software-defined vehicles and energy systems to the telco-cloud-edge-AI continuum. The workshop will also explore #CEI-Spheres and the Hourglass architectural model and their open source strategies, via presentations done by Tanya Suarez Ph.D. (BluSpecs, O-CEI's Clustering leader) and Antonio Kung (Trialog, O-CEI's Standardization leader).
