@marcorudy Welcome! I also joined a "non-art" instance, and it has worked me fine. I created the account only for publishing comics (Instagram mindset - not very usefull here), but I've started to enjoy actually talking to people and sharing relevant posts about local things etc (both in English and Finnish). So, now the account has become more personal, and when I'm publishing my comics, I'm using relevant hastags and a specific #darkoolong hastag to mark the comics - so anyone wanting to follow only the comic content can do it and not see my personal stuff.
