A post https://mastodon.world/@muz4now/114782131834821612 by Stan Stewart is the proximate cause for this simulation of a cakewalk, which, if played by an Italian, would be in the tempo of andante.

On the day this was written, the pair of SNJ/AT-6s based nearby flew overhead, enroute to somewhere.

These bits of music that I write in a single day (#DailyMelody) seem to reflect the personal events and thoughts of the day. Although, since the composing takes up a good chunk of the day, my personal events and thoughts may be a reflection of the music written.

For a few hours during an early spring day, the mind tuned out certain Toxic Official Word Salads so as to hear, instead, a polyphonic unfolding of four harmonious voices.

Over a century ago, Boris Sabaneyev wrote a "Canzona Phrygia", a mostly polyphonic bit of music for organ and arranged for piano. The first ten bars of the middle and upper contraputal voices serve as the basis for the music below.

A quiet shoutout, though he is unlikely to hear it, to Salvatore de Santa Maria (composer of "Ecce nos reliquimus omnia" https://ks15.imslp.org/files/imglnks/usimg/a/a6/IMSLP346144-PMLP558899-Santa_Maria.pdf and other fine works) for being the inspiration for this minute of music. Composing it kept me off the streets and out of the bars on a sunny day; a person could say that the temperature (4 degrees of Fahrenheit) might also have been a contributing influence.

The starting point for this short bit of music was Joe Haydn's "String Quartet in E-flat", op.33 #2, specifically the 10th and 11th bars of the Scherzo and the first two bars of the Largo. As it was written on a Thursday during an afternoon snowshower, the name of the music naturally became "Thor's Snow Day".
