Today was the second (maybe third?) time I've seen a large bird of prey taking flight from the pond's edge. Not sure if it's always the same bird, but today's sighting looks to me like an owl (I'd guess a barred, but maybe a great horned). Maybe someone can tell...
From today's #DailyWalk: The deer didn't hang around for a close-up.
Also, I got a better photo of the mystery bird from a few days ago. It's a Northern Flicker, and it's always in the tall willows by the pond. I've noticed a potential nesting cavity in one of the willows.

Rain. We had no rain during the last 4 weeks of March. In the first 12 days of April, it rained on 7 different days for a total of 4.5 inches / 114 mm.
Photos from the #DailyWalk and the muddy garden.
Mystery bird from today's #DailyWalk. This bird darted into a large multiflora rosebush at the edge of the pond. Safe inside its fortress, it let me get close enough for a photo (even on this cloudy day).
Best guess: Female Yellow-rumped warbler (Myrtle race). The beak and the eye-stripe seem to fit. AND... I saw a male in this same location last April 26.
