Here's an oddity I #spotted on #Guernsey a few years back. Very much a grab shot against the light, so heavily GIMP'd, but it's apparently a #Subaru Sambar Dias Classic, although I would have guessed #Daihatsu #Hijet. Later Sambars were re-badged Hijets, so that might be true.

If ever there was a #WeirdCarMastodon candidate, I'd say this was it.

Gotta love a #kei car!

Some other interesting JDM classic cars and a bus from TAM.

Seems all the #evcar companies are slow to get the lead out and sell internationally, but times are a changing, finally, I think

#Daihatsu rolls out mini electric commercial vehicles in Japan
#Toyota and #Suzuki are working with Daihatsu

A few days ago, I mentioned that the tiny Daihatsu Copen sports car was originally developed to meet Japan’s kei-car regulations but fitted with a larger engine for export. I suspect this boxy practical little Hijet (thank you Google reverse image search) is more typical of Daihatsu’s kei-car output. Snapped by my brother in Tokyo last year.

When is a Daihatsu Sirion not a Daihatsu Sirion? When it’s a Malaysian-produced second-generation Perodua Myvi. This version of the Sirion was also available as the Toyota Passo and the Subaru Justy. Perodua is part-owned by Daihatsu, which is owned by Toyota. The following generation of Myvi was an all-Malaysian design, rather than borrowed from Daihatsu/Toyota. Seen in my local Sainsbury’s supermarket car park last January.

Today, a third Daihatsu, the Sirion. Unlike the Copen and the Terios, which were micro versions of a sports car and an SUV respectively, the Sirion was a fairly mainstream supermini. A few days ago, I mentioned that the strong Yen in the early 2010s made UK imports of the Nissan Cube difficult, a factor that also did for official Daihatsu exports to Britain which ended in 2013. I saw this Sirion while out walking recently. More on the Sirion tomorrow.
