Dacia Duster brings the “e-Hybrid” technology even to the real off-road vehicle.
The Dacia’s “super hybrid” is the 154 hp three-fuel system that also includes all-wheel drive and electronically managed automatic transmission. The Hybrid-G 150 4×4 (with a wading depth of 45 centimeters and approach and departure angles of 31 and 36 degrees) is currently unique and is offered on the Duster (but also on the Bigster) starting from €28,500. The powertrain is based on a 1.2-liter three-cylinder petrol engine with front-wheel drive producing 140 hp, which can also be fueled by liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), a less expensive and more sustainable option (over fifteen kilometers per CO2 less per kilometer). This is combined with a rear electric unit with a maximum power of 31 hp and a lithium-ion battery of 0.84 kWh for energy recovery during deceleration and braking. This means the Duster can circulate in zero-emission mode, which, according to tests conducted by the manufacturer, can reach up to 60% of the time in urban environments.
The engine’s torque is 230 Nm, while that of the electric motor (non-cumulative) is 87. The transmission is a six-speed dual-clutch (front) with two ratios on the rear engine: “Gear changes are quick, the steering-wheel controls allow for immediate control in off-road or towing situations, and the “N” mode disengages the clutch to reduce friction when front-wheel drive traction is sufficient,” Dacia promises. The two ratios on the rear electric motor are a major innovation in the segment, guaranteeing high torque at low speeds as well as the speed of the electric unit at high speeds, “extending the 4×4 coverage to 140 km/h, always with maximum efficiency.”
The Duster is paired with 48-Volt mild hybrid technology that limits the consumption of thermal units to the rationality of LPG, which costs half as much as gasoline and a third as much as diesel. Equipped this way, the SUV is accredited with a range of up to 1,500 kilometers thanks to 50-liter tanks (one for LPG and one for gasoline) with respective consumption figures of 14.1 and 18.2 liters per 100 kilometers. “These combination of innovative technologies guarantee performance, operational savings and off-road capabilities, making Dacia’s SUV suitable for urban use as well as long trips and adventure,” the manufacturer assures.
Several driving modes are also provided, which the driver can select based on usage: Auto, for automatic 4×2/4×4 management during daily use, Eco, which prioritizes electric start-up and fuel savings, Snow, for greater control on slippery and snowy surfaces, Mud / Sand for optimized dynamics on muddy paths, Lock, for maximum traction during off-road driving at low speeds, and Hill Descent Control, for controlling descents between 3 and 30 km/h. The maximum speed of this version is 180 km/h with a 0-100 km/h acceleration of 10.2 seconds. With the repair kit (i.e., without the spare wheel), the luggage capacity ranges from 400 to 1,527 liters depending on the position of the seats in the second row.

Infotainment, washable materials and attention to detail. That’s how the Duster’s interior has changed.
Duster would not be Duster without an ingenious and practical interior that makes everyday life easier for users. Everything is designed to make you feel at home, both at the front and at the back of the cabin. Words of David Durand, Dacia’s design director. The multiple references to the “Y” that characterize the headlights and which are also found in the alloy wheels have been taken up on the air vents and door panels.
This is one of the rare concessions exclusively aesthetic, which are nonetheless very appreciated. Because for Dacia what matters is what is useful. For example, the ergonomics of the 10” central touchscreen, tilted 10° towards the driver and placed within his field of vision to minimize distractions, the new automatic transmission, or the steering wheel with its flattened shape, which is not only easy to use but also facilitates access on board. The display is standard from the Expression trim level and, among other things, offers information for off-road use such as the right/left lateral inclination angles of the vehicle and the pitch angle to assess slopes, as well as the distribution of torque between the front and rear axles. “We wanted to make the Duster design more attractive than ever, giving it a style that is even more Duster, even more Dacia,” insists the manager. We have firmly and proudly reaffirmed the values of our SUV, which is robust, suitable for outdoor activities, essential, cool, and eco-smart.
The 200,000 units of the new generation already marketed confirm the credibility of the numerous awards (over 25) that Duster has received for design in Europe, in different countries and by different juries. The interior is practical and well-cared for, with washable upholstery, rubber floor mats, and recycled materials, defined as “ideal for those who live their car actively.” The mentioned touchscreen is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and is paired with a 7” digital instrument panel. As a guarantee of connectivity there are backlit USB-C ports and wireless charging for mobile phones (standard or optional).
Among the safety and driver assistance systems offered as standard by Dacia, on the Duster there are 6 airbags (front, rear, curtain), lane departure warning, rear parking sensors, driver attention monitoring, electric power steering with variable assistance, emergency automatic braking, lane keeping assist, road sign recognition, and Isofix anchors on the outer rear seats. On the top two versions, the Journey and the Extreme, for 500 euros (including VAT) you can have the Parking package with a 360° camera, Blind spot warning and front and side parking sensors.

Dacia Duster gets a new look, focusing on a modern and attractive style.
Functionality and robustness, always at a reasonable price: in fact, the best in the “value for money” parameter, as the manufacturer repeats. From the earliest previews, the third generation of Dacia Duster has been appreciated for its even more compelling and attractive exterior design, thanks to “pure volumes and straight lines.” Always essential, but also always less austere, the model also exhibits the new and modern “Y” headlight signature.
The goal of the Dacia design center’s pencils has been to define “clean and solid proportions, without resorting to superfluous stylistic flourishes.” Remaining on the theme of proportions, it should be noted that they are essentially identical to those of the outgoing Duster, while this new generation (4.34 meters long and 2.66 meters long in wheelbase) presents itself with a vertical front, sculpted wheel arches, and “stretched” surfaces that highlight its presence on the road: simplicity transformed into an icon, as can be defined a vehicle already marketed in 2.7 million specimens in Europe, where it is also the best-selling SUV for private individuals since 2018. And not just for a matter of price, which remains highly competitive.
The “Y” headlight option, also adopted for the rear lights, is one of the distinctive elements of belonging to the new Dacia family and even extends to the wheels, with a visual effect achieved without chrome, consistent with the brand’s eco-smart philosophy. “Alternative finishing methods – explains the manufacturer – guarantee evident ecological advantages, reducing the environmental impact caused by these operations.”
And if functionality is what characterizes Dacia, linked to efficient engines (up to 1,500 kilometers of range with the trifuel mild hybrid gasoline GPL solution with a power of 154 hp) and its potential uses (including off-road thanks to all-wheel drive and a ground clearance approaching 22 centimeters), robustness is not just an aesthetic promise. The SUV is enveloped in a “continuous safety belt” of protection in which the side shields merge with the wheel arches and bumpers. In defense of the lower part, on the Duster, extensive plates have been mounted, also made with resistant materials that minimize scratches and wear.
Developed on the CMF-B platform, it ensures a more stable and comfortable driving experience also due to the adoption of the bars in the front-wheel drive version that reduce roll up to 21% (17% on the 4×4), which also improve stability in curves and directional changes. “It’s an SUV – synthesizes Dacia – designed to be lived in, not just admired, capable of naturally fusing modern aesthetics with practical functionality. Every line, surface, and material has been designed to last, to accompany daily adventures and to value the authentic spirit that has always defined this model.”
