Last year I needed to repair the backlight of the display of my Roland D-550. I've chosen to replace it with an OLED.

Roland D50/D550 with the PG1000 programmer. Poor man’s version to get one’s feet wet, Roland D20/D110 with the PG100 programmer.
I have several fader/knob boxes, but none are detailed to the extent of the PG1000, so definitely not the same thing using Roland’s Cloud D50.

17 (!) Screws later and my Roland D-550 has a new battery. Fortunately it is not soldered, a CR2032 held in place by a metal tab. it is back up, reset, and now just have to load the presets through sysex. I have the important patches on an external card anyways as I share it between the D50 and the D550.

Heute konnte ich endlich eine Reparatur an meinem Roland D-550 abschließen. Neulich war die characteristische Hintergrundbeleuchtung des originalen Displays ausgefallen.
Das kommt nach ca. 35 Jahren nicht selten vor.
Ich hatte dann nach Recherche ein passendes OLED-Display als Ersatz gekauft. Leider gab es ein unerwartetes Hindernis beim Austausch, da Schrauben in der Frontplatte zu fest angezogen und deren Köpfe zu weich waren.
So habe ich zum ersten Mal in meinem Leben also Schrauben aufbohren dürfen, direkt in einem Synthie, mit meiner Schlagbohrmaschine. 😅 Natürlich nur im Bohrmodus mit einem Adapteraufsatz für normale Metallbohrer, den ich mir noch besorgen musste.
Ist zum Glück alles gut gegangen und das neue Display macht einen guten Eindruck. 😎
Nächstes Jahr steht noch ein anderer Synthie zur Wartung auf der Liste und danach sollte ich für lange Zeit Ruhe im Homestudio haben. Wer weiß, vielleicht mache ich dann sogar Musik.
