I’ve just rewatched #dune (1984 by David Lynch) and found it a strange but pleasant experience.
I didn’t get into it when I first watched it years (decades) ago but I knew people who had read the novels so the lore was in the discourse around me. Watching it without any context must have been really hard because of the compressed narrative. Watching it today I can appreciate the weird atmosphere and bizarre images and see it as an introduction to this interesting fantasy world.
Das hatte ich noch im Hinterkopf und war darum sehr irritiert, schon jetzt einen Trailer fĂźr #Dune 3 zu sehen. ^^
@eldritch48 I have thought about this when I saw the first if the new Dune movies. The society was just royalty and cannon fodder. No planetary culture. (Caveat: haven’t seen the 2nd Dune movie and I don’t know any Dune lore from the boom etc…)

The problem I have with #Dune is that, maybe Frank Herbert intended it to dissuade people from falling for cult leaders, but it still reads as a battle between "good" (Atreides) and evil (Harkonnen).
But Paul Atreides isn't all that good. I recall his statement in "Dune Messiah": "deceit is a tool of statecraft". I stopped reading it at that point. Did Herbert really intend to glorify deceitful statecraft? Shame on him if he did.

Am I taking it too literally? That's possible. I am autistic
