A Bridge to Wandesford Quay

Cork’s newest bridge is a new pedestrian or cycle bridge that spans the River Lee from Wandesford Quay to Lambley’s Lane. You’d be forgiven if you’re not familiar with either area, as they aren’t exactly the most trafficked areas in the city.

If you’re curious, Lambley’s Lane is off to the side of the old Beamish & Crawford brewery, and the bridge is worth a look at night. Henry shared a photo of the bridge a couple of days ago. Thank you, Henry, for pointing out where it was. I had no idea.

If you look carefully, you can see all the way down Tuckey Street to Oliver Plunkett Street. During the day, you might even see down to Parnell Place, maybe?

Here’s the latest news from Cork City Council about the bridge and the newly reopened Bishop Lucey Park. Photos of that to come…

absolute scorcher today but i had the absolute pleasure of #cycling to my friday 50+ #trans group with my  sister who invited, and encouraged me. she bought me a coffee and a toasted cherry scone whilst we watched kids swim & row on the river. then she had a puncture, so we walked along the river. we discovered i bought my english bike in NL whilst she bought her dutch bike in UK. she introduced me to #TheHub which is a publicly funded bike support service and secure parking, who helped my sister get her tyre fixed. i took some of their free cycle maps, and when i asked can i give a donation they said no. but then my sister said how ridiculous it seems that they're not open on saturdays, and i said to them if you'd take donations you might fund it 😉

Shout out to Hackney Council for clearing the leaves out of our bike hangar. It was about 40cm deep before, it's like a trawler net for dead leaves!

Utrecht's dynamic signs display real-time availability of bike parking. Imagine every city having this level of bike-friendly infrastructure.

The bike lane past the horrid junction at Surrey Quays is now finished, so you can get from Greenwich all the way to Tower Bridge Road fully by cycle track. Which is nice. Loads of folks using it already, great to see.

Had my first abuse from a motorist for not using the half-arsed #CycleInfrastructure on Priory Road today. (Apart from not wanting to freeze waiting at all the traffic lights, I wanted to turn left towards #SellyOak, which it isn't designed for.)

I can see this becoming tedious...

As part of the October cycling infrastructure safari, we took a look at the new cycleway between Cannon Hill Park and the A38 Blue Route

A more uplifting sight is some of the cycling infrastructure in #NewYorkCity. 🚲 🚲 🚲

It's been years since I've been to New York, and I've seen some pictures and videos online about how much cycling infrastructure has gone in. Much of it is imperfect, but man they're making progress.

More than once I saw #NYPD vehicles blocking the bike lanes (like in one of the photos below).

People-centered transportation advocate @streetsmn on the redesign of historic Summit Avenue in St. Paul.

https://streets.mn/2023/02/21/ten-reasons-to-love-the-summit-avenue-draft-plan/

Does the plan go too far for bikes? Author correctly observes that this avenue existed before cars, so to be true to historic nature of Summit Ave, ban cars & restore the bike trail that was established in 1890. #MNastodon #cycleInfrastructure #banCars #PeopleBeforeCars #LivableCities

Ten Reasons to Love the Summit Avenue Draft Plan

The draft for the much-discussed Summit Avenue reconstruction is now 90% complete – so here are ten reasons to love the new bike trail plan.

@Ebly We need to keep pressurizing MPs and supporting campaign groups. I will look up some better hashtags ... There must be some UK govt MPs on Mastodon
