So, the only thing I really wanted from the joy-cons was a better antenna. And now I have one!
Following this advice from Reddit, I took some joy-con-1s and just... crammed a better antenna into the case. Got a pack of sixteen for $10 on ebay, the part number is molex-1461530100. The right joy-con has a snap connector that already matches this part, the left joy-con requires you to strip and solder a wire, hopefully you can sorta see the solder point in these photos.
Look how tiny the old antenna is compared to the new one. No wonder it has problems. And it's not even a very expensive part. Nintendo could absolutely have been doing this the whole time for like, pennies of difference. Especially given how much they charge for new joy-cons. Oh well.
