Although I have about 30 pretty fountain pens, lately I've been experiencing such joy in reaching for a bottle of ink and a simple dip pen with steel pointed nib. I have several nib holders with various nibs installed and it seems no matter which one i grab I'm enjoying the act of cursive writing. I write 1 page journal entries every few days, and i write notes and cards to people by hand now. Sometimes i use one of my fountain pens, but mostly these days i reach for a dip pen- it's so beautifully uncomplicated and immediate.

Periodically dipping the nib into the inkwell and giving a slight tap on the well or bottle lip to drop the excess off the nib before writing ten words or so... then another little dip and tap. The gentle scratching sound of the nib bouncing over loops, crosses, and dots forming words. The exquisitely fine hairline curls and luxurious thick ribbons possible with the flexible pin-sharp steel nib. The satisfaction in getting just the right amount of ink on the nib, how the ink coats the nib. There is something profoundly pleasant and comforting in this simplicity of this little ritual. It calms and soothes me....

...I don't feel the need to buy more fancy pens or fancy inks at this point. I have good paper, I have over a dozen variously colored lovely bottles of ink. I have enough fun fountain pens. And i have enough different dip pen nibs to last a long while, along with 6 inexpensive but perfectly serviceable nib holders. What i have could last me for many years.
Have i reached my 'set point'? Have I lost the need for a new pen fix in hopes of finding my own 'grail pen'? Maybe so, but the better question is am I Happy with the writing supplies I have, and the answer to that is very much yes.

Whale tales and weather: Local scientists study whaling ship logs for climate cues

Weather reports made by mariners more than two hundred years ago may have relevance for research into climate change today. Some local scientists believe the records from whaling ship logs hold data about shifting winds, storms and tides. At the Providence Public Library, maritime historian and UMASS Dartmouth professor Timothy Walker, is taking a deep […]

Stopped to run an errand at Staples and also bought 3 new pens.

I have hundreds of pens. Everywhere.

But writing in cursive in my journal (s) is a lifelong favorite activity of mine and a huge part of my life.

So, pens. Journals and pens. Right up there with chocolate and silence for therapeutic purposes πŸ₯°.

@penfount
Cleaned and refilled a couple of my pens today. Some have dried up by sitting unused for about 5 months. Others just need a bit of coaxing. I have to decide on fewer pens to keep filled up.
