Bicycle rodeos are a great time to add cheers, applause, and songs 🚲 These activities keep Cub Scouts engaged while reinforcing bike safety lessons.
A hand signal cheer helps Scouts remember left, right, and stop signals. A silly applause acts out riding up and down hills. These simple traditions add laughter and help safety lessons stick ⚜️
Last night was the end of Spring Term at Cubs.
We went for a Night Hike. It was our first in a long time, and only my second.
Many of them completed Stage 2 of the Navigator Badge. They used compasses with my hand drawn map of the local forest paths.
I led them in a Repeat After Me campfire song at one point as we walked through the dark woodland paths.
And we ended with (somehow) my first ever Scouts’ Own.

Scouts paint, cut, and glue step by step. They practice basic tool safety and learn how small details fit together. The project also supports lessons about recycling and using materials wisely. Each Scout leaves with a finished fish to proudly display ⚜️
Cub Scout camping adventures help Scouts learn outdoor skills in safe and simple ways 🌲 From Lion to Arrow of Light, each rank adds new responsibility.
Scouts practice the buddy system, pack the Six Essentials, and plan for weather. Older Scouts set up tents, learn knots, and review safety rules. Camping builds confidence, teamwork, and strong family connections that last beyond the program ⚜️

2/2 The rest of night was working through parts of the Navigator Staged Badge, so drawing maps, learning about map keys & basic compass use.
A quick quiz then followed before we finished about what equipment is needed for a night hike.
And it seems that no matter how many times I say “night hike” this Term there always is someone who asks “What’s that?”
…So, naturally I can’t resist replying “a hike at night”… 🤡

Last night at Cubs was a Meeting of two distinct parts.
We started by investing 2 of our Group’s Leaders, one from Beavers, the other my new Cub Section colleague.
Conveniently it coincided perfectly with our plans to hold the Investitures of our newest Young People next week, so it demonstrated to them what was involved.⚜️

Making a gourd birdhouse is a practical Scout project that connects craft skills with nature 🐦 Scouts scrub, scoop, drill, and paint a dried gourd to turn it into a shelter for birds.
Adults guide the bleach and knife steps, while youth handle many other parts. The project teaches patience, safety, and conservation. When finished, Scouts can hang the birdhouse and watch for visiting birds ⚜️
Ticks on a Toilet Seat is a fun Cub Scout snack that mixes laughter with healthy eating 🍎 Scouts spread peanut butter or cream cheese on apple rings and top them with raisins.
The simple steps let youth practice basic kitchen skills with supervision. They talk, share ideas, and build teamwork while they work. It is easy to prepare and helps create a positive, relaxed den atmosphere ⚜️
