For years, the Cuban government has expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue with the United States. But #Trump and #Biden rejected dialogue and instead embraced a Cold-War era policy of hostility.

Cuba’s President #MiguelDíazCanel confirmed on Friday that #Cuban and #US officials were engaged in talks.

Belly of the Beast went to the streets of Havana to ask Cubans what they think about the recently announced discussions between the governments of Cuba and the United States.

These conversations have been aimed at seeking solutions, through dialogue, to the bilateral differences that exist between the two nations. There are international factors that have facilitated these exchanges.

In recent months, thousands have taken to the streets in Cuba – for peace, against the blockade and against the increased imperialist threat from the US. There have also been large demonstrations with very high participation by schoolchildren and students on important anniversaries of the Cuban Revolution.

Previously, following the invasion of Venezuela and the hostage-taking of Venezuelan President Maduro and his wife, the US government had declared Cuba its next target as a ‘threat to national security’ in an executive order.
