Cuba ha esaurito petrolio e gasolio a causa del blocco statunitense che da gennaio impedisce l'arrivo di forniture energetiche sull'isola. Lo ha dichiarato il ministro dell'Energia cubano Vicente de la O Levy ai media statali. "La somma dei diversi tipi di carburante - petrolio greggio e olio combustibile, di cui non abbiamo assolutamente nulla, diesel, di cui non abbiamo assolutamente nulla - lascia solo il gas prodotto dai nostri pozzi, la cui produzione è aumentata", ha affermato il ministro, citato dalla BBC. Secondo il governo cubano, la situazione energetica è "estremamente tesa e critica". Il blocco delle forniture ha provocato blackout fino a 22 ore al giorno in alcune aree della capitale, L'Avana. Secondo quanto riferisce Reuters, mercoledì sera in città sono scoppiate proteste: centinaia di persone sono scese in strada, bloccando alcune arterie con cumuli di rifiuti e urlando "ridateci la luce".

Proprio ieri gli Stati Uniti hanno rinnovato la loro offerta di 100 milioni di dollari in aiuti a Cuba, a condizione che il governo cubano accetti di collaborare con Washington, che dallo scorso gennaio ha imposto un blocco delle forniture di carburante che sta portando l'isola sull'orlo del collasso. "Spetta al regime cubano decidere se accettare la nostra offerta di assistenza o negare un aiuto salvavita, assumendosi in ultima analisi la responsabilità nei confronti del popolo cubano per aver trattenuto questo aiuto cruciale", si legge in una dichiarazione rilasciata dal Dipartimento di Stato. Il Segretario di Stato Marcos aveva già fatto riferimento a questa offerta, affermando che L'Avana l'avrebbe respinta, mentre il governo cubano sostiene di non averla mai ricevuta.

Cuba has run out of gasoline and diesel due to the U.S. blockade that since January has prevented the arrival of supplies on the island. This was declared by Cuban Energy Minister Vicente de la O Levy to state media. “The sum of the various types of fuel – crude oil and fuel oil, of which we have absolutely nothing, diesel, of which we have absolutely nothing – leaves only the gas produced from our wells, whose production has increased,” the minister said, cited by the BBC. Prosegue il delicato viaggio in Italia del segretario di Stato americano Marco Rubio, impegnato nel tentativo di ricucire i rapporti tra Washington e Roma, messi in crisi dalle bordate di Donald Trump contro Papa Leone XIV, accusato di essere “morbido” con l’Iran, e contro la premier Giorgia Meloni, rea, secondo il tycoon, di non averlo sostenuto nel conflitto con Teheran.
Una giornata fitta di incontri, iniziata con un faccia a faccia di un’ora alla Farnesina tra Rubio e il ministro degli Esteri Antonio Tajani. Al termine del colloquio, definito dalle parti “positivo”, il ministro ha tenuto un punto stampa durante il quale ha spiegato di aver detto al segretario di Stato Usa di essere “convinto che l’Europa abbia bisogno dell’America, l’Italia abbia bisogno dell’America, ma anche gli Stati Uniti abbiano bisogno dell’Europa e dell’Italia. Queste sono le relazioni transatlantiche: l’unità dell’Occidente è fondamentale”.

Nel corso dell’incontro, ha aggiunto ancora Tajani, sono stati affrontati anche altri dossier, tra cui il Venezuela, “la questione di Cuba” e quella “dell’Africa mediterranea sulle materie prime”.
Al termine del summit, Rubio si è recato a Palazzo Chigi per incontrare la premier Meloni.
