Is the ‘Trust Broken’? Something to watch out for.

This is a long one, but may be important.
Who was not surprised by strong protests on the streets of Ukraine, against moves by Zelenskyy trying to gain the sole power of the ‘independent’ anti corruption institutes NABU/SAPO.
At least I was.
Corruption in Ukraine is a Soviet legacy, and an eyesore of most Ukrainians. As it would be mine.
‘We’ have to watch out that it’s going to be rooted out before Ukraine becomes a member of the EU. But nowadays that membership is on a fast track to be realized as some kind of support of the aggression war by Russia.
I certainly don’t need another Orban.

A few days ago we received a message from the Dutch embassy. The question was whether we could be in Kyiv on Sunday, because they wanted to invite us for a dinner with our new prime minister, Rob Jetten.
That did mean we had to adjust our schedule a bit. But that was possible, so we said yes.
We did that for several reasons. The cabinet is new and deserves every chance to prove itself. But also because when it comes to Ukraine policy, we are completely on the same wavelength. Just like the prime minister, we believe Ukraine should receive all possible support.

Ukraine is the buffer between the aggressor and the free West. They are holding back the enemy and in doing so they are also protecting our security. Ukrainians are often grateful for the help they receive from us. But in reality, we should be thanking them for what they are doing for us.
It was special to sit at the table with the prime minister and ambassador Alle Dorhout, only a few hours after they had spoken with the Ukrainian president.
We had an open and valuable conversation with the prime minister. He turned out to be remarkably well informed about our work and even follows our TV series Patatje Hoop. First we told our story. After that we spoke at length about the situation in Ukraine and at the front. He asked many questions and wanted to know exactly what we see happening there.
After that conversation, we honestly felt quite reassured. We have confidence that this cabinet will do everything possible to support Ukraine and thereby also protect our own security.
Among those present at the table were Ambassador Alle Dorhout, spokesperson Ivar Noordenbos, policy adviser Christoffer Jonker, former ambassador Robert Serry, and Wouter Hollander of the Dutch Defence Cluster.
