A relaxing vacation was followed by a rough stint of social occasions and challenges. Trying to get back on track and took out one of the older projects. The idea how to continue had been there for some time. Adding a detail pic of the work in progress. #creativeDaily

New 📚 #bookinthefridge: John Wiswell – Someone You Can Build a Nest in.

2025, August 6 – Books in the Fridge

My nieces created these beautiful artworks while visiting. I admire them for just starting out without much thinking. As a person who tends to overthink EVERYTHING it might be very helpful to remind myself once in a while to “start before you’re ready” (a quote that I have kept on my fridge door for some time along with other things that I want to remind myself of from time to time). #creativeDaily
One evening this week I had a friend over who motivated and helped me to move my couch and creative desk. Today I cleaned up the desk as I’m going to have my nieces over and I don’t want to risk having them play around with the sharp tools. That makes two times #creativeDaily this week (kind of). Also now the projects are sorted again and I hope to get into it again soon. (Yes, I’m trying to distract myself from something emotional but I think that might even be helpful for the moment.)

“So entstanden viele leicht unterschiedliche Versionen einer Werke. Rosso stellte damit die Vorstellung infrage, dass ein Kunstwerk nur eine endgültige Form haben müsse.”

Lese gerade einen Artikel von @musermeku und das obige Zitat könnte mir neuen Ansporn für #creativeDaily geben. Für mich ein wichtiger Gedanke, weil es einer meiner dominierenden Persönlichkeitszüge ist, dass ich “immer alles richtig machen” will.

Today in the early morning I read this article:

“Writing about such a painful and dark chapter of French history—the abominable Vel’ d’Hiv roundup, which took place in Paris in July 1942—felt somehow more bearable if I approached it in English. That language gave me a kind of emotional buffer.”

Now I think maybe it will be easier to write that short stories about polyamory in english other than my native German. #creativeDaily

The Blessing of a Hybrid Brain: On the Joy of Writing in Two Languages

As a child, I thought most people lived in two languages. My father is French, my mother, British, and for as long as I can remember, I spoke both languages at home. To this day, I’m not sure which…

Followed up on some research for my 1950s novel idea. Now I’m pretty sure that my female protagonist must have had access to a car. Also discovered some sources for maps of that time and region (Los Angeles) and I will need to read more about the political situation at that time. #creativeDaily
Anyway, that’s why I haven’t posted #creativeDaily in the last weeks. Since Wednesday this week I feel energetic and more myself. It might have to do with the new medication kicking in or with an unexpected good development in a personal relationship.
Spent the day with my long-distance partner who is visiting. Added some paper clips to my tools. Need to improve the light situation around my creative desk. Sorted some paper to find something suitable for covers and bookends. #creativeDaily
Today I felt better and cut some popsicle sticks for the floor of my #BookNook. My collage project has also been on my mind. And I feel good about the fact, that I now have a dedicated desk where I can sit down and “just do some art”. Will take some time to establish this as a routine but for now I’m happy with my #creativeDaily experiment.
