Just spotted a headline (from a publication I refuse to name but which can generally trusted on the subject of sport, though not on any others) "County Championship to Scrap Kookaburra Ball Experiment". If this is true I am delighted - see this post from June 29th for my thoughts on that experiment: https://aspi.blog/2025/06/29/the-invasive-species-in-the-county-championship/

The English cricket season is over. Nottinghamshire are deserving Men's County Champions and Surrey fell short at the second last, to the disappointment of all involved with the Club, players, members and supporters.

Congratulations to Notts and to Peter Moores. The higher profile aspects of coaching life have been written about in many ways, oft uncomplimentary in tone. But County Championship titles at three different counties is not to be mocked or slated.

From a Surrey perspective, it's human nature to pick out a moment where everything started to go wrong and blame it on that but let's enjoy winning 3 consecutive County Championship titles and almost getting to four. There are good things happening at the Club under Gareth Batty and Alec Stewart.

This piece from BBC Sport airing the thoughts of Durham CCC's CEO is interesting - https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/cnvr9yl0vnqo

I don't know about "perplexed". Isn't there a point where you realise that things aren't going well so changes and/or preparation need to be made?

I feel for Durham. Last time they were relegated it was thanks to internal politics at the then management of the ECB, for which I will never forgive those whose public and private utterances caused this.

It would have been redemption and revenge served cold if Durham had got the draw they needed to send Hampshire down to Division 2. It was in their hands to save themselves and relegate Hampshire.

But they didn't.

And that will hurt them like hell.

Durham: CEO Tim Bostock 'perplexed' by club's relegation

Durham were relegated from Division One after a shock collapse on the final day, leaving chief executive Tim Bostock 'perplexed'.

Durham's Dramatic Collapse Sends Them to Division Two as Hampshire Survives by One Point

On the final day of the County Championship 2025, Durham's fate was sealed after a catastrophic collapse at Headingley. They were bowled out for just 85 runs, resulting in their relegation to Division Two. The defeat came after a valiant but ultimately unsuccessful effort by Hampshire, who fell to S... [More info]

The English domestic cricket season has ended with Marchant de Lange getting out caught by Cracknell off Zafar Gohar to make Gloucestershire 281 all out and give Middlesex victory by and innings and 67 runs. Middlesex move up one place from fifth in div 2 to fourth, while Gloucestershire stay sixth in div 2.

An astonishing collapse (even worse than Hampshire's collapse against Surrey) by Durham has saved Hampshire from what looked like certain relegation. Durham started their second innings 129 behind Yorkshire (Durham 346, Yorkshire 475), and have collapsed to 85 all out and defeat by an innings and 44 runs, a result that relegates them by a single point (144 to Hampshire's 145).

I am really rather angry. The most shameful performance I've seen on a cricket field in all my years. #CountyCricket #CountyChampionship
