Council on Foreign Relations is a Brooklyn based guitar/drums duo of Ethan Johnston and Luis Colladowith, who approach music with an apparent open door policy as far as genre is concerned, as they continue to shift between different tones, textures, and styles pretty much every time they record something. At least that has been the pattern thus far: they explored a mixture of post-punk and no-wave on their first EP, Demonstration (2022), then switched to a math rock mode on their next EP, Relay (2023), followed by a two track EP in 2024 that paired an indie rock-ish song with a 13-minute post-rock drone built on repetition and dissonance. As hard as it may be to get a lock on their work in stylistic terms, it is clear that they have a big appetite and a healthy affinity for the elements of noise and tension, both prominent ingredients in their music.
