I stand waist deep in a wide expanse of blue lupines. It is the Mary's River Natural Area park, an experiment in returning cultivated rye grass and cattle pastures back into the native oak savanna.

A rare return to how it looked when the Kalapuya natives called this land home.

My own home is on an isolated ox-bow bend between the park and the river.

I live in the PNW. Here in my town we have an exceptional donut shop run by older ex-OSU students: #DeathByDonutz. They make donuts with potatos and they also bake vegan donuts. Their prices are fair and the staff are outgoing. The donut shop is located in an accessible area for anybody to walk in and buy one donut or perhaps a dozen donuts if they so choose.

Some individual employed by the CPD (a #Corvallis Police officer) decided on a whim that someone randomly pointing a laser from inside Death By Donutz's building at *3 am in the morning* was a Class A Misdemeanor. Is that so, officer? On what basis is the Benton County Circuit Court charging this person? Not the charge, mind you. On what basis?

They say that it only takes six months of police academy training to become a cop in the state of #Oregon or anywhere else. I guess whoever that rookie officer is didn't actually take #Physics 101.

Because — if the person alleged to have done the laser pointing at the police officer was inside the building, the law of refraction would have immediately applied:

#Refraction — "a laser beam bends very slightly as it enters and exits the glass (due to the change in refractive index), but since the two glass surfaces are parallel, the beam exits parallel to its original path, just slightly offset"

So, to argue that the person intentionally did this is absurd on its face. They would have had to take into account the change in refractive index to properly aim the beam at the police officer.

Never mind that the laser pointer this person apparently possessed was probably a battery-powered laser pointer and not, say, something bigger and more menacing such as a sonic weapon or long-range acoustic device (LRAD) which are built and designed to harass groups of people. LRAD's are what the cops themselves will sometimes use at both anti-Trump and anti-ICE rallies to drive off protesters.

Fuck cops. ACAB. Fuck Trump. Fuck FOP and that other cop's union (NAPO) for endorsing that mofo of a US President again during 2024. All of you LEO's who endorsed the Shit-Stain in 2024 are on the wrong side of history.

Yesterday I saw this, my first open daffodil of the year. Today there are tons of them open around town. I'm not personally quite ready for spring, but nonetheless, it is coming.
